How should cardboard packaging be stored and transported?

Whether you are storing or transporting cardboard boxes, you must ensure appropriate environmental conditions. Only then will cardboard packaging effectively protect goods shipped to customers or semi-finished products stored in the production hall. There are several factors that require special attention.

Protection against mechanical damage

During both transport and storage, you should arrange the boxes in a way that minimizes the risk of mechanical damage. Above all, ensure that there are no sharp tools or machines nearby that could accidentally compromise the structure of the packaging.

Before transporting the boxes, they should be strapped together and secured to pallets so they do not shift during transit. This prevents them from being damaged by friction or impact with other objects in the vehicle. It is also a good idea to wrap the cardboard packaging in stretch film, as this will protect it from dirt, temperature fluctuations, and moisture.

Protection against moisture and temperature changes

Cardboard packaging should be stored in dry warehouses. Therefore, monitoring the conditions inside is crucial. Regular ventilation is also essential to maintain an optimal temperature and protect the boxes from mold or fungi that can develop in unventilated rooms or facilities with excessively high humidity.

Why does temperature matter too? Like moisture, it can cause damage and reduce the durability of cardboard boxes and other paperboard products. Ideally, the warehouse temperature should be no higher than thirty degrees and no lower than five degrees. To protect the boxes from dirt and other negative factors, do not place them directly on the floor; use pallets instead.

The same approach should be taken during transport, avoiding exposure of cardboard packaging to moisture or extreme temperature fluctuations.
